DAIRY FARMING

Intro

Dairy farming has been a big inspiration to me ever since I was old enough to help my dad with all his jobs. I have always wanted to be a dairy farmer because I have an outdoors personality and love to be in a big environments. There are a lot of roles in the dairy farming job, like manager, assistant herd manager, 2ic (second in charge), calf rearer, owner and loads more and today I am going to explain some to you guys. Dairy farming is a job that works with things like tractor work, milking cows, working with cow and calves, organising things, driving motorbikes, maybe doing some digger work and most of all being your own person.

How to enter the job

To become a dairy farmer you don't have to go through university but if you did I would recommend Massey or Lincoln because they give you good opportunities. If you did go to university you would have to do 4-6 years of training, but you would be doing it for a good cause.

Skills

Some of the skills that you would have to have are good communication, good listening, patience, following instructions, common sense and loads more. When you start the job you don't actually have to have skills you can learns a lot of them on the way of becoming a dairy farmer. You might know this but having the right attitude helps you get more jobs and get to better places in dairy farming.

WHAT THIS JOB INVOLVES

In the dairy farming job there is a lot of other jobs like, 2ic which runs the farm when the boss is away on holiday, the manager who is the person to go to if there is something wrong and he or she is the one who sorts it all out. Calf rearer/ milker is the one who feeds the calves and milks the cow when needed, the assistant herd manager is the one who does some milking and  helps out with things on the farm and last but not least the owner who makes all the decisions on the farm and what days all the staff get off.

THE PAY

The newly experienced farmers only get about 45-51k a year it if you want to be an experienced worker you would get about 63-71k a year. I don't really think that this is a lot of money because you think of all the bills that you would have to pay.

The only hard thing

The only hard thing that I could think of is getting up early in the morning to do all the milking oh and all the cow poo that you would have to deal with (well that is according to my teacher.)

What you do in each job

Being a 2ic (second in charge) is a hard job but someone has to do it. In this job you have to do tractor work, general maintenance, capital improvements and servicing of vehicles. Assistant herd manager does a lot of things like helping clean up the cowshed, thistle spraying, sorting out sick cows and sorting the feed for cows.

CONCLUSION

So that is all that i would like to say to you about farming and that you have learnt lots. I hope that in the future you all have the same amount of passion on farming as I do. Dairy farming is what I would recommend for the people that love to do outdoors stuff and love working with big animals. I would also say that it would be great experience for the people that haven’t worked on the farm before or in different environments. If you want the kind of job that gets to work your own hours, meet kind and new people, gets payed well, works with different animals and most of all loves to have fun times then dairy farming is the best job for you.

Getting up before dawn every day is just the job for me.

Even though it is always cold and frosty, I still love to do

what I do.

When I start the machine a big cloud of frost blows out.

The cows moo loudly as they walked slowly down the

wide cow lane to the cow shed.

A frost cloud came rushing out of my mouth, as I breathed out.

The big machines take a while to warm up and standing

in the cold isn’t always the best thing.

As soon as I feed out the silage all the steam came up

and floated into mid air.

All the calves making a sound wanting food ,gives you a

pounding headache everyday.

NETBALL GAME

On the Friday the 24th of April 2015, I had netball practise for my netball team, it wasn't my normal school netball team it was the SKC team that I have been asked to be in for the rest of the year. On the Friday that we had the practise it was a practise to get know who the other players were and a bit of practise. The next day was our real netball game, I was in the position of GA for the whole game. I thought that I played really well because I was always free to get the ball when I was needed. In the GS position was Mekeisha. I also thought that Mekeisha and I had a good connection because she always brought  her player out to the top of the circle and ran back so that I could throw it to her easier. For the game I got player of the day for all my hard work and great playing. (well that's what the coach said anyway)

The little kitten

There was once a man named John

John was a British soldier that was over in Gallipoli fighting against the Turkish. When he was out fighting, he was hanging back from the rest of the Germans for more back up when he heard a " meow". He quickly turned around to find a black and white kitten standing behind him. He Bent down to pick up the kitten, when he did he ran quickly over to the nearst wall of sand bags. He was thinking and thinking of a cool name to call him. Then a bright idea came to his head " Charlie." John took off his coat and was searching with determination to try and find a little bottle to feed Charlie with.

Throughout the rest of the war Charlie lived with John. John loved Charlie loved and Charlie lived John. John happily survived the war and is now living in his own house with his big cat Charlie.

MY TROFY

On Wednesday the 3rd of December 2014 I went to excelsior squash and rugby to play squash for the end of the year. I played Bree and only lost by six points. After my game we all went in to the big lounge for the prize giving's. At prize giving I got 3rd place for my grading's. I was amazed by my placing because I thought that I would get a lower placing and I also thought that I did well and improved heaps.

In the weekend my netball team played valley ferns and won 33 to 8. It was fun to play because we got alot of intercepts and we had the best shooters ever, they got their goals in from the edge of the circle and if they past it out then the WA and c would be there to get it. We made a few mistakes but one of our players would get it back or the other team would do something wrong.

 I LOVE MY NETBALL

In the weekend my rep netball team went to Timaru to play some games of netball. We only played two games and sadly we lost both of them. We played really good games but they were a bit better than us. I played Gs Ga and Gk, when i played Gk my player pushed me over and i grazed my knee and twisted it at the same time it really hurt but I didn't come off.

In the weekend my netball team played Valley Ferns and drew 14 all. It was a great game and we all played really well. 

Casey Kopua and Laura Langman

 

Casey Kopua and Laura Langman

INTRO

I am doing Casey Kopua and Laura Langman because I love netball as my sport and I want to be a professional netball player. Casey and Laura are both JJ role models to me.

Teams

Casey and Laura played together in the WBOP (Waikato Bay of Plenty) Magic. They both played for a long time but then Laura decided to go and play for the Northern Mystics. They both play for the Silver Ferns and have played over 50 games for them and they still play.

Captains

Laura and Casey have both captained the Silver Ferns more than 5x times each. There are other people that have captained the Silver but Casey and Laura have captained them more. They both are good captains.  To be a good captain you have to be a person that is strong, supportive and has a laugh with their team.

World netball series

Casey and Laura have both been to the Commonwealth Games and won some gold and some silver medals at the netball champions and they had some great games.

 

Facts on Casey Kopua  

Casey got married to Terry Kopua a few years ago and they are happy together. Casey plays Gd and Gk as her position. Casey was born on the 19 of June 1985 in Hamilton. She is 1.88m tall. She has played 7 fast-5 games and 6 fast net caps.

 

Facts on Laura Langman

Laura got married to Adrian Pooley last year. Laura’s positions are WD, WA and C. Laura was born on the 16 April 1986 in Hamilton. Laura is 1.73m tall. She has played 14 fast-5 games and 6 fast net caps.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed reading my report. Casey and Laura have inspired me to be keep loving my netball and they have given me confidence to play my best and I hope I have inspired you to be the best you are in your sport.

In the weekend my netball team played Kurow and lost 14 to 21. We had a good game but unfortunately we lost. I played WA and GA, everyone said that I did good at shooting and I think that I did well. After that my mum had to play, in the meantime I got asked to play for St Kevin's because they didn't have enough players. In that game I played GS and GA. The GK said " Can we have her in every game I love her shooting." But the coach told her to calm down.
